AICPA to Continue Mission and Name of AWSCPA
The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the American Woman’s Society of CPAs (AWSCPA) have agreed to a plan that continues the name and ideals of the AWSCPA through the AICPA Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee (WIEC).

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) and the American Woman’s Society of CPAs (AWSCPA) have agreed to a plan that continues the name and ideals of the AWSCPA through the AICPA Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee (WIEC).
The AWSCPA has successfully represented women in the profession since 1933, and the AICPA has worked closely with the organization for years. Members of the AWSCPA, for example, played a role in developing the institute’s highly successful Women’s Global Leadership Summit.
On Sept. 19, the AWSCPA membership overwhelmingly approved an agreement to transfer its name and other intellectually property to the AICPA under a plan to dissolve the organization. The AICPA will create a task force within the WIEC of former AWSCPA members to provide insight into the institute’s continuing efforts to develop communities and programming for women in the accounting profession.
“This agreement allows the AWSCPA influence to continue to be felt through our shared goal of promoting women’s leadership in the profession,” said Melissa Hooley, chair of the WIEC.
Cynthia Cox, president of the AWSCPA National Board, added: “We are very excited about the opportunity to pair the passion of our AWSCPA members with the resources and goals of the AICPA.”
